The site has recently undergone a significant update, mostly under the hood, but there are a number of new features implemented and this page is intended to be a brief explanation of those features.
Podcasts & Social Media
On the right sidebar there are a series of buttons. These are just ways to stay informed about updates to the site. Any information that you can access through these buttons can also be found directly on phelanacresbiblechurch.com.
This button will open iTunes (if installed) and take you to the church podcast as it is listed in the iTunes Music Store. From here you can subscribe to the podcast and iTunes will automatically download future service posts. This will sync with your iPod. iTunes will not allow the podcast to include video posts.
This button will open up the Zune player (if installed) and prompt you to subscribe to the podcast. After subscribing, future posts will downloaded automatically and synced with your Zune player. Video posts will also download automatically.
This button will open the RSS feed for the podcast. If you use any RSS reader you can subscribe to podcast updates using this button.
This button takes you to the church page on Facebook. From there you can become a ‘fan,’ post comments to the church wall, and use a discussion board. Links to new services are also posted on this page.
This button links to the church Twitter page. You can follow the church on your Twitter account and be notified when new services are posted.
This button links to the church Youtube channel. Videos of church events will be posted here. The Youtube videos are generally split into a series smaller videos. By doing this you can more easily jump to a specific section of video, and in general due to the compression of Youtube videos the downloads will be smaller.
Search
On the very right of the menu bar there is a search box. Here you can quickly find any information on the site, including searching for a specific service.
A few examples:
- “November 1, 2009″ (with the quotes) – shows all services from November 1, 2009
- Evening – shows all evening services
- Romans – shows all services that are marked as referencing Romans
Bible Verse
There is a box that will load a random Bible verse onto each page. If you click on next quote underneath the verse, a different verse will load without refreshing the page. If you have a specific verse you would like on the site, it can easily be added. Send your request to david@phelanacresbiblechurch.com
Recent Services & Site Accounts
Underneath the calendar there are two sections side by side. On the left side, the three most recent services posted to the site will be listed. You can click on any of them and go directly to that service. On the right side, you can register for an account on the site and leave comments on a few different pages, including the photo gallery, and any service.
Tags
Near the bottom of the sidebar you will find a section titled Tags. All services are now ‘tagged’ with various information, including names of speakers, special music, and books mentioned in the services. The text size for tags increases with the number of times the tag is used. You can click on a tag and view all of the services associated with the tag. For example, if you click on Genesis, all services tagged with Genesis will display.
